Growing up outside of Philadelphia, the Eagles were the team my entire family rooted for. So, my entire family was glued to their seats to watch The Birds clinch a first-round bye and home advantage for the playoffs. And with the Eagles a strong favorite to win the whole thing, they going to be the talk of everything for the next couple of weeks. We need to see quarterback Jalen Hurts healthy and in top form for the post-season—he’s not only the key to The Birds' passing attack but is a force in their running game as well.
Looking forward to the Super Bowl also means looking forward to my friend Maddie’s chili. For many years, she hosted the watch party and when folks weren’t watching the half-time show, they swarmed around the table desperate for a bowl of her fantastic chili.
The perfect beer to go with her chili? Anything from the Provincetown Brewing Co! I particularly love their Draft Elderberry Gose that they did in collaboration with BIKE. You can order their beer online at https://www.provincetownbrewingco.com and have it shipped in time for your super bowl party!
Chili Recipe
Ingredients:
1 white onion
2 cloves of garlic
1 chili pepper (optional)
2 lbs of ground turkey
1 box of chopped Pomi Tomatoes or 1 can of chopped tomatoes
3 tablespoons of cumin
2 teaspoons of kosher salt
2 grinds of fresh black pepper
1/2 teaspoon of red chili flakes
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions:
Sauté one white chopped onion in olive oil. When translucent add 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute.
Add 2 lbs of ground turkey. Break the turkey into small pieces with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula. While you are doing that add 2-3 tablespoons or more of ground cumin, 2 teaspoons of kosher salt, freshly ground pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
When cooked through, add 1 box of chopped Pomi Tomatoes or 1 can of chopped tomatoes.
Taste at this point to see if more cumin or salt or some chili peppers needs to be added to suit your taste.
Once the tomato is incorporated, add one can of drained and rinsed pink beans or kidney beans.
Turn down the heat on the stove, cover the pot and let everything come together, for approximately 20 minutes.
Serve with shredded cheddar, sour cream, or Greek yogurt.
Enjoy and go Eagles!
