Pride Month, The Atlanta Bucks Rugby Team

As we celebrate Pride this month, we continue to connect with and support like-minded organizations that can help us focus on inclusiveness and well-being for everyone. One of the organizations we have been lucky to connect with is the Atlanta Bucks Rugby Team. We asked Jason Anderson from the Bucks to sit down for an interview with us. Enjoy this read! Who are the Atlanta Bucks?

We are one of the first gay and inclusive rugby teams in the United States, founded in 2003. After seeing the success of gay rugby in other cities, we needed a team in Atlanta. Our mission has always been about providing a safe, fun, and supportive environment to learn the sport and experience the brotherhood of rugby.

The Mission of the Atlanta Bucks

Our mission is simple. Play rugby. We provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people and allies to learn and grow in the sport and experience the love of the game and the love of the brotherhood.

Staying healthy, mentally and physically

We practice twice a week to get ready for weekly Saturday games. We condition and practice skills during practice but also ask our team to work off the pitch at the gym. Physical conditioning is so important to keep us safe while playing. Mentally, our coaches and captains constantly encourage us and give us positive feedback. We need to keep pushing forward.

Committed to giving back

Many events throughout the year help us raise money for our team and philanthropic efforts. Our signature events include the Purple Dress Run and Ms. Ruck n’ Maul. We have raised money for children’s charities, animal charities, and LGBTQIA+ initiatives. We love Atlanta and are committed to being an integral part of the community.

Uniform Inspo

Our brand has also been about representation and strength. The purple, blue, and white on our shield represent our values of inclusivity, loyalty, and pride. And our antler as a singular element brings the power to it all. Our shield has remained steadfast and constant as we’ve e visual features like our uniforms, communications, and merchandise.

We also wear BIKE compression shorts while we practice and play always sport our favorite BIKE jocks off the field.

We love BIKE! We are so proud to have our 2023-2024 season sponsored by the BIKE brand and to participate in the inclusive tone the brand sets. Our teammates wear the brand on and off the pitch, and we love to promote it on social media at every chance.
